Nada bint Omar is a Natural Therapist based in Brisbane. Nada is one of four siblings from a small Muslim family, born and raised in Australia.
When did you develop an interest in natural therapies?
"Reading and learning about religion aroused me to begin practicing the beautiful religion of Islam more seriously about nine years ago, alhumdulilah. This was actually when my formal studies in Natural Therapies began. Natural Medicine was always respected and utilised by my family whenever minor or major ailments arose, or when medical drugs simply failed to provide effective and safe solutions.”
Members of Nada's family were very sceptical of surgery and other serious medical interventions and often researched alternative medicine in detail, which led to the avoidance of medical intervention.
“This practice stemmed as far as my grandparents, uncles and aunts both in Australia and overseas.”
Natural medicine books and knowledge were always shared around in Nada’s family & friends circle.
“I remember being intrigued by stories of my father's mother who operated a socio-
Where did you complete your studies in Naturopathy?
“I studied Naturopathy with the Australian Institute of Applied Sciences, a nationally accredited private college specialising in various Natural Therapy modalities. This laid the foundation of my journey of being a Natural Therapist in our modern time.”
After establishing a Natural Therapies & Massage business for two years at Logan
Women's Health & Wellbeing Centre, Nada was moved by the multicultural community
within the locality of her workplace, and so temporarily changed fields to work for
Multilink Community Services (Qld's largest non-
“Ever since I have met and married a wonderful Muslim man with whom I am expecting a baby soon, inshaallah, I decided to cease my full time work to focus on my health, family and the pregnancy.”
However Nada is very keen on providing a professional Natural Therapy service for the women of the local community, this time in Runcorn.
“In response to recent requests I am excited about opening a new ladies Therapeutic
Massage and Natural Health Service from the privacy of my own home in Runcorn, starting
this month, to those ladies who are interested in receiving confidential, professional
quality services and products for the betterment of their health and wellbeing, or
even gifting such services to friends or family -
Why would you recommend Muslims to choose a career in this field?
“Studying the marvelous works of our Creator found abundantly in nature, and how
our bodies are actually equipped with processes that are capable of self-
Using this knowledge towards the betterment of our fellow human's health, wellbeing, and happiness.
Being in the position to give gentle yet powerful treatments that cause no ill-
Teaching people how to understand their own bodies and take control of their own wellbeing and that of their families.
Watching them gradually implement this knowledge to prevent or delay the onset of illnesses in oneself and loved ones.
Causing no harm to bodies or the environment whilst treating disease.
These are all elements of being a Natural Therapist which impact so positively on a Muslim's connection with Allah swt.
As a Muslim, I have found it is quite easy to work in an Islamically sound atmosphere, and provide products and services that are 100% Halal to all of my clients.”
What are some of the highlights of your career?
“Working for an industry that promotes holistic wellness and vitality, rather than taking reactionary measures to suppress symptoms.
Thinking outside the square to find solutions for my clients.
Watching people blossom physically and emotionally as they start receiving regular care and become empowered to help themselves.
Being part of an industry which is finally starting to become understood and valued in our modern society, as more and more people experience freedom from sickness, and the tremendous potential that natural health can have on the quality of their lives and the lives of their loved ones.
Can you please mention some of the challenges that a Natural Therapist would face?
“Confusion and misconceptions within our mainstream society often pose a challenge.
Sometimes media, politics, commercial pressures, and under-
What about the monetary aspect of being a Natural Therapist?
“Where one chooses to operate his/her own business, the pay can vary quite significantly, as prices are up to the practitioner, and depend on the services offered and clientele etc. Salaries offered by large supplement companies, health food stores, or pharmacies for those who choose to work for established companies are quite reasonable, these are always up to the employer. Generally, the opportunity for creativity within the market offers genuine Therapists with many options.”
How do you think the job market is for Natural Therapists in Queensland?
“While the job market within companies, pharmacies and health food stores are quite limited compared to other fields, it is not so difficult to find or establish work as a Naturopath. Meanwhile, I can definitely say that there is potential for Therapists who are willing to educate clients about the remarkable benefits of natural health and the joy of living a naturally healthy lifestyle.”
How does your career compliment the Islamic way of life?
“Being a Naturopath means that I am working directly with natural systems produced directly
by Allah swt every day, as well as investigating the wonderfully intriguing healing
agents found within the unaltered creations of Allah. A Muslim in this field is constantly
reminded of his/her Lord. For me, the opportunity to specialise my services for women (&
children as needed) removes the pressures of being in a work place where I am in
a one-
Anything else you would like to add?
“Natural Therapies are a science as well as an art. This field requires people with strong compassion and a genuine interest in other people's wellbeing and vitality, not just blindly working for supplement companies for the sake of making profit. A sharp eye for distinguishing between valuable vs. biased information is essential for the sake of our clients who seek and trust our expertise.”
